Longriggend, Airdrie, Scotland

Longriggend began life as the longest of a group of mining villages in this area. Over a hundred houses were built in the 1870s but by the 1910 only 20 houses remained and most of the pits had closed. Today only a handful of houses are to be found on the Main Street but the Community Council is one of the most active in the area.

Longriggend is a village with a population of less than 150, nestled in the heart of Scotland, 6.2 miles from Airdrie town centre. Surrounded by scenic Lanarkshire countryside and farmland, Longriggend is richly inhabited with numerous types of wildlife. Locals of the village are those who can both enjoy the delights of the local countryside as well as those who seek a more relaxed way of life in a close knit community.
